I am confused to which HSV I have?
I only get outbreaks on my shin area and twice on my collarbone. I’ve never had an outbreak in my vaginal area or in/on my mouth. Does this mean I have HSV 1 and 2?

It's understandable to feel confused when your outbreaks don't match what you've read about herpes. Location alone can't reliably tell us which type you have. HSV-1 is most often linked with cold sores around the mouth but can also cause outbreaks elsewhere on the body, and HSV-2 is more commonly associated with the genital area but can occasionally appear on other skin. Because of this overlap, testing gives the clearest answer. A clinician may swab an active sore for PCR testing, or use a type-specific blood test. Not having outbreaks in certain areas also doesn't rule out either type, since the virus can be present without visible symptoms. Please see a doctor, nurse, or sexual health clinic, who can review your history, confirm what's causing your outbreaks, and explain what the results mean for you. Many people find that knowing their type brings real clarity, and herpes is a common, manageable condition with effective treatment options available.
