How do you have *the* conversation?
I don’t know if I’m being dumb or not. I’ve only recently started dating again because the HSV (Genitals) put me off for so long. As a woman I feel like it’s hard to find men who don’t just say “it isn’t worth the risk, you’re lovely let’s stay friends” or “aw does that mean you’ll blow me then?” I don’t know if I’m maybe saying it too early on? But I don’t want to leave it too late incase it seems manipulative?

You're not being dumb at all—this is genuinely one of the hardest conversations to navigate, and your thoughtfulness about *when* and *how* shows real integrity.

Here's the reality: there's no perfect timing that works universally, but there are principles that help. Most sexual health experts suggest disclosing **before sexual contact becomes likely**—so somewhere in that window after you've established genuine connection but before things escalate physically. Early enough that it feels honest, late enough that they know *you* as a person first. That balance matters because it anchors the conversation in "this is part of who I am" rather than "surprise."

The responses you're getting say more about those men than about you or your disclosure. Rejection stings, but it's actually useful information—you're filtering for people capable of maturity and compassion. The fact that some react poorly doesn't mean you're doing it wrong; it means they're not your people.

A few things that often help: keep it factual and calm (your tone sets theirs), lead with what you know about managing it safely, and be clear about what you're asking for—understanding, a conversation, maybe time to think. You're not asking permission to exist; you're offering information so they can make an informed choice.

The "too early vs. too late" anxiety is real, but it usually resolves once you find someone who responds with actual humanity. They're out there.

If you'd like support navigating dating with HSV specifically, platforms like **PositiveSingles.com** connect people with shared experiences—sometimes that community perspective helps too.
