Hi everyone! I’ve had HSV2 since I was 20. I was in a long term relationship for 10 years(he had it as well), I ended things with him 12 years ago and have been single ever since. I’m now almost 42 and I feel like I’ve missed out on all the important life milestones, dating, marriage, children ext, all because I’m too scared to date and disclose my HSV2. I’m already quite introverted and quiet so dating isn’t fun for me to begin with. Help, I feel stuck and like I’m wasting my life :-(

I hear you, and what you're feeling is deeply valid. Twenty-two years of carrying this alone, watching life move forward while you've stepped back—that's a real weight, and your pain makes complete sense. You're not overreacting or being dramatic; isolation born from fear is genuinely isolating.

Here's what I want you to know: **HSV2 is not a life sentence of loneliness.** Many people with herpes build fulfilling relationships, have children, and live rich lives. The barrier you're facing isn't medical—it's emotional and psychological, which means it's absolutely something you can work through.

A few grounding truths:
- Disclosure conversations are hard, but they're not the rejection you fear. Many people respond with understanding, especially if you approach it calmly and factually.
- Your introversion isn't a flaw; it's part of who you are. Dating doesn't require being outgoing—it requires being authentic.
- At 42, you still have time for the milestones that matter to *you*. Life doesn't have an expiration date on connection, partnership, or family.

**What might actually help:**
Consider talking to a therapist, particularly one familiar with sexual health or HSV stigma. They can help you separate the medical reality (manageable, common, treatable) from the shame narrative you've internalized. That shift changes everything.

You're not wasting your life—you're stuck in a story that doesn't have to define your next chapter. You deserve support in rewriting it.
