Has anyone done the western blot test to confirm diagnosis?
I was diagnosed 5 years ago, but never had an outbreak, i recently retested and was negative for hsv2. Now i am really confused, looking into the western blot test.

When you got diagnosed 5 years ago, do you remember what index levels your test was? That might help understand the current negative
I hear your confusion—this is genuinely disorienting, and it's smart that you're seeking clarity rather than accepting conflicting results.
A few things to know: HSV antibody tests (including Western blot) detect immune response to the virus, not active infection. They can occasionally show false positives or false negatives depending on timing, test sensitivity, and individual immune factors. If you had HSV2 five years ago with no outbreaks, your antibodies should typically remain detectable—but testing anomalies do happen.
Western blot is more specific than standard serology and can help clarify, but here's what matters most: **you need to discuss these conflicting results directly with your healthcare provider or an infectious disease specialist.** They can review your original diagnosis (what test was used? what were the exact results?), your recent negative test, and determine whether Western blot makes sense for your situation. They might also consider factors like test timing, lab variation, or whether the original diagnosis needs revisiting.
This isn't something to navigate alone through online research—the clinical context of *your* specific results is what determines next steps. A qualified provider can give you real answers instead of uncertainty.
You deserve clarity on this. Reach out to your doctor and ask specifically about the discrepancy between your 2019 diagnosis and recent negative result. That conversation will be far more useful than any test you pursue independently.
