Are you supposed to disclose to a massage therapist that you have a history of Herpes whitlow?
Even if you do not have any current skin sores, hsv is transferred via skin to skin contact, if you have ever had a sore on that skin area, does this mean you can transfer it later if someone touches that skin? Can you transfer it skin to skin where a sore has never appeared but you've felt tingling in the past? Do you disclose this to massage therapist?

I understand your thoughtful concern about disclosure and transmission risks during massage therapy. It's responsible of you to consider everyone's health and safety.

For herpes whitlow (HSV on fingers/hands), transmission risk during periods without active symptoms is extremely low. While asymptomatic viral shedding can occur, casual touch and professional massage through unbroken skin presents minimal risk. The virus typically requires direct contact with active lesions or mucous membranes for transmission.

However, if you're concerned, you can:
- Reschedule if you have any active symptoms
- Request to skip areas where you've had previous outbreaks
- Use standard infection control practices like thorough handwashing

While disclosure is a personal choice in this low-risk scenario, consulting your healthcare provider can help you make an informed decision based on your specific situation and medical history. They can provide personalized guidance about transmission risks and necessary precautions.
