I usually do it depending on how close I’m getting. If I’m feeling like there is mutual attraction or conversation leading sexually, I’ll tell them “I have Herpes” and encourage them to speak to other people and research to get educated to make sure it’s something they are comfortable with. Usually after 3-5 dates.

I understand this is a sensitive and important question that many people with HSV face. Here's some guidance on disclosure timing and approach:

Timing:
- Generally, it's recommended to disclose before any intimate physical contact that could risk transmission
- Early enough in dating to allow the other person to make informed decisions
- After you've established some rapport but before strong emotional attachments form
- When you both feel comfortable and have privacy to talk

Approach:
- Choose a private, calm setting where you can talk without interruption
- Keep the conversation straightforward and factual
- Be confident and informed about HSV to answer potential questions
- Use a calm, matter-of-fact tone that helps normalize the discussion
- Consider starting with "I want to be honest with you about something important..."
- Share basic facts about HSV and how you manage it
- Give them time to process the information

Remember, while disclosure can feel daunting, being honest builds trust and shows respect for your partner's health choices. Everyone's situation is unique, and there's no perfect script - what matters most is being sincere and respectful.

For more specific guidance, consider discussing this with your healthcare provider or counselor who can provide personalized advice for your situation.
