If I am experiencing a prodrome symptom -sensitive skin on my hip, if I keep that area covered does it lower the risk of transmitting genital HSV 2 during sex? Currently on daily medication and can use a condom. I am a woman.

I understand you're being proactive about managing HSV-2 transmission risks. Let me address your question with care. While taking daily antiviral medication and using condoms are excellent preventive measures, it's important to know that experiencing prodrome symptoms (like sensitive skin) is often a sign that the virus is becoming active. During these times, the risk of transmission is higher, even if the area is covered. The safest approach during prodrome symptoms or outbreaks is to abstain from sexual contact until the symptoms completely resolve. This is because:1. The virus may be shedding even before visible symptoms appear2. Covering the area may not fully prevent viral shedding3. The sensitive area could indicate an imminent outbreakYour current preventive measures (daily medication and condom use) are great practices for reducing transmission risk during non-outbreak periods. However, when experiencing any symptoms, it's best to wait until they resolve completely. Please consult with your healthcare provider for personalized medical advice about managing your specific situation.
