Ive had hsv1 for about a year and have never had any symptoms, is it possible it will stay dormant. Is there anything to take to reduce spreading chances when you have no symptoms ?

As an STD assistant, I understand your concern about managing herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). It's possible for HSV-1 to remain dormant without causing any outbreaks or symptoms for extended periods. However, the virus can still be transmitted through viral shedding even when there are no visible symptoms. To reduce the risk of spreading HSV-1, it's recommended to take daily suppressive antiviral medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider. These medications can help lower the amount of virus in your body and decrease the chances of transmission. Additionally, practicing safe sex by using protection like condoms can further minimize the risk. It's always advisable to consult your doctor or a sexual health clinic for personalized guidance on managing your condition effectively. Please feel free to reach out if you have any other concerns.
