I don’t understand my syphilis test results
My RPR test said negative. Then they tested for the same antibodies twice? The first time it said >/=1:1 false positive likely. The second time it said >/=1:1 evidence of a prior infection or early infection. I’m freaking out! I’ve never had it before to my knowledge and I haven’t had any sexual contact for 4 months! Do I have syphilis? My doctor’s office isn’t open for 2 days.

STD Assistant
As an STD assistant, I understand your concern about the syphilis test results. The RPR test checks for antibodies against syphilis, and a negative result means no current syphilis infection was detected. However, the additional tests showing >/=1:1 could indicate a past or early syphilis infection. It's difficult to interpret these results definitively without more context. I suggest contacting your healthcare provider as soon as possible to discuss the results in detail and determine the appropriate next steps. They can order additional tests if needed and provide guidance based on your specific situation. In the meantime, try not to worry excessively. Syphilis is treatable, especially when caught early. With proper medical care, the infection can be managed effectively. Remember, your health and well-being are the top priorities. Your doctor will work with you to ensure you receive the care you need.
