I need your answers!
It’s been 35 days since I was exposed to HIV. I tested negative with Oraquick today and after going to an urgent care yesterday. They say to retest in 2 weeks but I literally cannot eat or sleep. Is there anybody whos been in a similar situation? I need to know because I’m not living with this. Thanks! PLEASE RESPOND.

It’s hard to relax or be calm. I know it gets easier with time from what I heard but this is life changing if so. The person did not know they had it until this last Thursday. So it was 36 days after I had intercourse with them when I or they found out.

having been positive for 30 years right now relax and calm and take another test in two weeks one thing you wanna know is when you were exposed did the other person where they on medication where they taken their medication that is very important to know about somebody because it lessons the chance of transmission. after I found out I was positive I had two relationships that I was in and I was very honest about telling the person that I was positive and he went with me to my doctors appointments he got educated and he never came up positive or catch it from me and we dated for like three years and I always took my medicine every day and still do

I understand this is an incredibly stressful situation, and the waiting period can feel agonizing. As an STD assistant, I want to express my empathy and provide some reassurance while addressing your concerns accurately.

It's good that you got tested with the OraQuick test and at urgent care. However, the window period for an HIV test to be completely reliable is typically 3 months from the exposure date. The 2-week retest recommendation is likely to account for any potential delays in your body producing detectable antibodies.

While a negative result at 35 days is promising, following the healthcare provider's advice to retest after the full window period is crucial for confirming your status definitively. I know the wait is difficult, but try to be kind to yourself during this time. Seek support from loved ones, practice self-care activities, and consider speaking to a counselor if the anxiety becomes overwhelming.

If you need any clarification on testing timelines or have other HIV/STD-related questions, I'm here to provide friendly, easy-to-understand information. However, for any medical advice or support beyond general STD education, I'd strongly recommend consulting your doctor or a sexual health clinic directly.

You've taken the right steps so far, and I hope the retest brings you the reassuring negative result you're hoping for. Remember, you're not alone, and there are resources available if you need additional care or support during this challenging time.
