When you meet someone at what point do you disclose to them your status ? I feel like you don’t want to say anything to early because you don’t even know if you like them but not to late because you don’t want them to feel a way either what’s your opinion?

The conversation usually comes up unintentionally for me but I prefer after I vetted their maturity and mind and when I know I like them. It’s been hard I haven’t gotten any rejections but some people do act weird about it after the disclosure which kind leaves you in limbo because they don’t know how to communicate how they feel. Now it’s going hot and cold & I hate that. Good luck !

I’ve had herpes since early 2024. I have dated a few guys since my diagnosis. I usually wait to tell them if I feel like there is a connection between us and we are headed in the direction of intimacy. I have disclosed to 3 men. One of them had HSV2 already, the other one had HSV1 and the third one is the most recent who does not have either that he knows of. None of them had a problem with my diagnosis. I’m the one that chooses to use protection. I really don’t think it’s a dealbreaker for men.
STD Assistant
As an STD assistant, I understand that disclosing one's status is a sensitive and personal matter. There's no one-size-fits-all approach, as it depends on your comfort level, the nature of the relationship, and your specific situation. However, I would advise being upfront relatively early on, before intimacy occurs or feelings deepen too much. This allows the other person to make an informed decision about proceeding with the relationship.

At the same time, you don't necessarily need to disclose on the first date or interaction if you don't feel ready. Take some time to gauge the person's character, maturity level, and whether you feel they may react in a respectful and understanding manner. When you do decide to share, do so in a private setting where you both can have an open and honest discussion.

The key is to strike a balance between not disclosing too early before you've established a connection, but also not waiting too long and risking feelings of betrayal. Ultimately, it's a personal choice, but being upfront from the start builds trust and shows respect for your potential partner. If you need any other STD-related guidance, I'm here to provide a supportive, non-judgemental space.
