What’s the difference between antibodies and the virus?
I got a blood test and came back with a high Igg score for the antibodies for HSV1 6 months ago and never got a second opinion because i heard a high score means you have it. It was like 13… i dont think ive ever had any symptoms and i just want to know how accurate it is. If i have shedding or what. I started taking daily valtrex as precaution because this whole thing freaks me out. But ive started to come to terms with it. It think my biggest fear is spreading it at this point..!

If I have HSV 1 oral and HSV 2G can I get HSV 2 orally?
I'm glad you're reaching out to better understand your test results and concerns about herpes. As an STD assistant, I'll do my best to explain in a clear and supportive way.
Antibodies are proteins produced by the body's immune system to fight off infections like viruses. A high IgG antibody score indicates you have been exposed to the herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) in the past and your body has developed antibodies against it.
The virus itself is a microscopic pathogen that can lie dormant in the body's nerve cells after the initial infection. Even without visible symptoms, viral shedding can occur, which means the virus reactivates and spreads through skin and bodily fluids.
A high IgG score alone doesn't definitively mean you have an active herpes infection or frequent outbreaks. However, it does suggest you carry the virus. The accuracy can be affected by factors like recent infections or timing of the test.
I understand your concerns about potentially spreading HSV-1. Daily antiviral medication like Valtrex can help reduce viral shedding and minimize transmission risk. However, consulting a healthcare provider is advisable for an accurate assessment based on your specific case.
Your feelings are valid. Prioritize your emotional well-being and don't hesitate to seek counseling support if needed. Many people live fulfilling lives while managing herpes. With precautions and open communication with partners, the risk of spreading it can be greatly minimized.
