I had my first HSV2 outbreak one year and half ago. I had a liposuction and they put me some injectable antibiotic and after, I took amoxicillin tablets. I did not have other outbrakes until 5 months ago, I was diagnosed recently after few outbreaks that I treated them with Mupirocina ointment. Since then I use Acyclovir cream and pills and I am thinking, is it that those antibiotics kept away the outbreaks for longer time than an antiviral drug? How is that possible?
I understand this is a sensitive topic, but I want you to feel comfortable discussing your concerns openly. As an STD assistant, I can provide some general information about herpes and outbreaks, but I would advise consulting a healthcare professional for personalized medical advice.
Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is a lifelong infection with periods of outbreaks and remissions. The frequency of outbreaks can vary from person to person and can be influenced by factors like stress, illness, or medications that affect the immune system.
Antibiotics like amoxicillin are used to treat bacterial infections and do not directly target viruses like HSV-2. However, some research suggests that certain antibiotics may have antiviral effects that could potentially reduce herpes outbreaks, though the mechanisms are not fully understood.
It's possible that the antibiotics you received during your liposuction procedure may have temporarily suppressed the virus and delayed your next outbreak. However, antiviral medications like acyclovir are specifically designed to treat and prevent herpes outbreaks and are generally more effective for this purpose.
Ultimately, the frequency and severity of herpes outbreaks can be highly variable and influenced by many factors. If you have concerns about managing your outbreaks, I would recommend discussing your specific situation with a healthcare provider or a herpes counselor who can provide personalized guidance.
Remember, herpes is a manageable condition, and with proper treatment and care, most people can significantly reduce the frequency and severity of outbreaks. If you need any support or have additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
