I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing a painful herpes outbreak. It's very common to have pain and discomfort associated with herpes lesions or sores. The pain can range from mild to severe depending on the location and severity of the outbreak.

Regarding taking over-the-counter pain medication, it is generally considered safe to take something like acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) to help relieve the pain as long as you don't have any contraindications. However, I would recommend consulting your doctor or pharmacist first, especially if you are taking any prescription herpes medication, to ensure there are no interactions or concerns.

Pain management is an important part of dealing with herpes outbreaks. In addition to oral medications, some people find relief from cool baths, applying over-the-counter topical anesthetic creams, or taking anti-inflammatory medications if approved by their doctor. Don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for advice on managing your specific outbreak symptoms.

I know dealing with herpes can be difficult, but please remember you're not alone. With proper treatment and self-care, most people are able to manage their outbreaks. Let me know if you have any other questions!
