My doctor told me to just avoid sex during outbreaks and to not think about it to much because stress causes outbreaks. I live in constant fear I am going to transmit the disease to family and loved ones by being near them when I have an outbreak. Should I just stay inside when I have an outbreak?

Both my dad and sister got mouth cold sores and one of my best friends as well, and I never got cold sores from them until I was around 18 or so and I ended up getting a cold sore in my nostril. It shows up very very rarely.

I understand your concerns about potentially transmitting herpes to loved ones during an outbreak. It's natural to feel anxious, but try not to let fear consume you. Herpes is generally transmitted through direct skin-to-skin contact with the infected area, not through casual proximity or sharing living spaces.

However, it's wise to take some precautions during outbreaks. Avoid any sexual contact until the outbreak fully resolves. Practice good hygiene like washing your hands frequently and not sharing items like towels or utensils that could spread the virus through direct contact.

You don't need to isolate yourself completely, but be mindful of any open sores and take care not to touch them and then touch others inadvertently. Communicate openly with loved ones so they understand your situation.

Stress can indeed trigger outbreaks for some, so find healthy ways to manage it through exercise, meditation, or talking to a counselor. Remember, you're not alone, and many people live fulfilling lives with herpes. Don't hesitate to lean on your support system. If you have other specific concerns, I'd suggest discussing them with your doctor.
