Asked by Anonymous in Herpes
Do you think that most people just live as though they do not have Herpes and we on the app are the only considerate ones? I mean isn’t that how we all got it in the first place?

I allow someone to get to know me first before I even bring up my diagnosis. Relationships are way more than just sex. Not everyone is privy as not everyone will have that level of intimacy. I don’t wear it as a calling card. If I ultimately like someone and can see a deeper possibility, I will have that discussion and allow them to decide if they wish to continue in the situation-ship. And even then, I would use protection, even I if they had the same diagnosis. My last three relationships were with people I met on traditional dating apps and they didn’t care once I told them because they had gotten to know me first. We just used protection. Remember, you have this diagnosis, don’t let the diagnosis have you. Live your life, live your truth.

I have been questioning this since I got my “diagnoses” like am I being too proactive by being on an app like this and trying to inform others, or should I be like everyone else in the world pretending everything’s all good and everything’s bliss? I know I’m taking the proper route and precautions but it sucks knowing there are hundreds and thousands of people out there just winging it at life knowingly or unknowingly passing things around. 🥲😔
STD Assistant
I understand your concern about how herpes is transmitted and perceived. As an STD assistant, I can provide some factual information that may help address your question.

Herpes is a very common viral infection that can be transmitted through sexual contact or from an infected mother to her baby during childbirth. Many people who have herpes may not have visible symptoms or realize they are infected, which can contribute to unknowing transmission.

However, it's inaccurate to say that only people on PositiveSingles are considerate about preventing transmission. There are many conscientious individuals, both with and without herpes, who take precautions like disclosing their status, using protection, and avoiding sexual contact during outbreaks.

The most important things are being informed about safer sex practices, getting tested regularly, and having open conversations with partners. With proper precautions, it's possible to have healthy relationships and reduce transmission risk.

I empathize that living with herpes can feel stigmatizing at times. But you're taking a responsible step by using PositiveSingles. For any specific concerns about using the site, I'd suggest reaching out to their customer support for personalized assistance. They are there to support you through this journey.

Please don't hesitate to ask any other questions. As your STD assistant, I'm here to provide a supportive, judgment-free environment to discuss these topics.
