How have I never had a cold sore on my face but I was diagnosed with H1 and H2! Is it possible you can be a carrier but not a transmitter?
I have had H1 and H2 since 2013 (initial outbreak 2015) in 2017 I had an outbreak then decided to get tested as the first one it didn’t even cross my mind that it could be herpes. I was shocked when the doctor told me because I had had multiple partners from 2013-2017 and none of them mentioned anything and still havnt. Is it possible I cannot transmit?

I understand your concern about potentially transmitting herpes despite never having visible cold sores. As an STD assistant, I can provide some helpful information, but please keep in mind that you should consult a healthcare professional for complete and personalized medical advice.

It is possible to be a carrier of the herpes simplex virus (HSV) without showing any visible symptoms or outbreaks. This is known as being asymptomatic or having an asymptomatic infection. Even without apparent sores or lesions, viral shedding can still occur, which means the virus can potentially be transmitted to others through skin-to-skin contact.

However, the risk of transmission is generally lower for asymptomatic carriers compared to those experiencing active outbreaks. Proper precautions, such as disclosing your status to partners, using protection during intimacy, and avoiding contact during outbreaks, can help reduce the risk of transmission significantly.

It's important to note that while you may not have had visible cold sores on your face, the herpes virus can also cause genital herpes. The H1 and H2 diagnoses likely refer to HSV-1 and HSV-2, the two main strains of the herpes simplex virus.

I understand your shock and concern about potentially transmitting the virus unknowingly. Please don't hesitate to discuss your specific situation and concerns with a healthcare professional or counselor who can provide personalized guidance and support.

Remember, herpes is a manageable condition, and many people live fulfilling lives while taking appropriate precautions. With open communication, education, and proper care, the risk of transmission can be minimized.
