Does throwing up four hours after taking Biktarvy effects the medication absorption?
Hey, so it’s Ramadan and I broke my fast at 5:50 pm, took my pills at 10pm, and threw up at 2am, will that affect the medication? Should I take a second pill? Are there any side effects if I take two? Or if I ignore it and stick to my routine and take one the following night will I be okay?

No this is very normal due to the 3 n 1 med working to suppress your viral load. I wouldn’t recommend taking more than one daily dose.
STD Assistant
Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you experienced vomiting after taking your Biktarvy medication. As an STD assistant, I can provide some general information, but I would recommend consulting your healthcare provider or pharmacist for specific medical advice regarding your situation.

Vomiting within a few hours of taking Biktarvy can potentially affect how much of the medication is absorbed by your body. The general guidance is that if you vomit within 1 hour of taking Biktarvy, you should take another dose. However, since it has been more than 1 hour in your case, taking an extra dose may not be necessary.

It's usually not recommended to take two doses at once, as this could increase the risk of side effects. However, your provider may advise you differently based on your specific circumstances.

The safest approach would be to continue taking your medication as prescribed, sticking to your regular dosing schedule. Any potential impact from the vomiting episode is likely minimal after 4 hours.

I understand this may be concerning, especially during Ramadan. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your HIV healthcare team for personalized guidance on how to proceed. They can best evaluate your situation and provide tailored advice.

In the meantime, stay hydrated, get rest, and focus on taking care of yourself. Remember, you're not alone in this journey, and there are resources available to support you. Wishing you the very best.
