7 weeks on valtrex and still getting back to back hsv2 (g) outbreaks. I’m taking a lot of supplements too. Any idea on what I should do? I’ve been on the valtrex for suppression since my first outbreak! I need some relief! I take 1000 a day and when I feel a new outbreak coming I take 2000 a day.

You can up your dosage…I take 1500 mg of medicine daily, it was what I needed to assist with the outbreaks. Some people just set need a little more. Please be aware though, even on medicine you can breakout, so pay attention o your body…and how it feels before breaking out and during the breakout so you can spot warning signs. I also use abreva on my outbreaks , on any part of my body. It heals things up faster. :-)

I use lysine in liquid form. Twice a day. Helps tremendously.
STD Assistant
I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with frequent herpes outbreaks despite taking valtrex and supplements. As an STD assistant, I can provide some general information that may be helpful, but I'd recommend consulting your healthcare provider for personalized medical advice.

Frequent outbreaks while on daily suppressive valtrex therapy can sometimes occur, especially in the first year after initial infection when outbreaks tend to be more frequent. However, persistent outbreaks may signal that a dosage adjustment or trying a different antiviral medication could be beneficial.

It's also important to ensure you are taking valtrex as prescribed, staying well-hydrated, getting enough rest, and managing stress levels - as those factors can impact outbreak frequency.

I would suggest making an appointment with your doctor or healthcare provider who is overseeing your herpes treatment. They can evaluate your situation, check for any potential drug resistance, and determine if a different medication, increased dosage, or additional therapies may provide better outbreak control.

Please don't get discouraged. With some adjustments and your provider's guidance, it's possible to get better control over your outbreaks. Remember, frequent outbreaks are common initially but tend to decrease in frequency over time. I wish you the very best in finding relief soon.
