Counselor, referring to another answer you gave someone—Are you saying that if I have genital HSV2, and my partner is negative, my partner cannot get oral HSV2 from oral sex performed on me?? If so, can you tell me where I can find the literature on that? Thank you

Oral HSV-2 infections are rare. Genital-to-oral transmission of HSV-2 is highly unlikely.

As an STD assistant, I understand your concern regarding the transmission of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) through oral sex. This is an important topic, and I appreciate you seeking accurate information.
To directly address your question - if you have genital HSV-2 and your partner is negative for both HSV-1 and HSV-2, it is possible for your partner to contract oral HSV-2 through receiving oral sex from you during an outbreak. The virus can be transmitted from the genital area to the oral area through direct contact.
However, I want to emphasize that the risk of transmission is lower during periods when there are no visible sores or symptoms present. Proper precautions, such as avoiding oral sex during outbreaks and using barrier protection, can significantly reduce the risk of transmission.
I would encourage you to consult with a healthcare professional or refer to reputable medical sources for the most up-to-date and accurate information on herpes transmission. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Sexual Health Association (ASHA) are excellent resources for reliable information on STDs, including herpes.
Please remember that open communication with your partner and regular testing are crucial for maintaining a healthy and safe sexual relationship. If you have any further questions or concerns, I strongly advise consulting with a healthcare provider who can provide personalized guidance based on your specific situation.
