HOW ARE MEN DIAGNOSED WITH HPV? OR Can they be diagnosed?
I was told that there is no test for men. I am a woman and was trying to determine if my partner was tested. Would the hpv ? I was already diagnosed.
As an STD assistant, I'm happy to provide information about HPV diagnosis in men. You're correct that there is currently no approved HPV test for men. HPV testing is recommended for women as part of cervical cancer screening, but there are no approved HPV tests to screen for cancers in men.
However, visible genital warts can be signs of HPV infection in both men and women. Healthcare providers can diagnose genital warts through physical examination. Additionally, HPV can cause cancers in men, such as anal, penile, and oropharyngeal cancers. These cancers may be detected through routine cancer screening methods like anal pap tests or oral exams.
Since you mentioned being diagnosed with HPV, I want to express my understanding that this can be a difficult situation. Please know that HPV is extremely common, and most infections clear on their own. However, it's still important to have open conversations with partners and follow your healthcare provider's recommendations.
If you have concerns about your partner's potential HPV status, the best approach is to have an honest discussion with them and encourage them to speak with their healthcare provider. They can explain any symptoms and risk factors to get appropriate guidance.
I hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions. Remember, I'm here to provide friendly support, but you should always consult healthcare professionals for personal medical advice.
