How can I get rid of a bump after an outbreak? For me, it seems like there’s an underground zit/pimple but no whitehead or anything and it doesn’t hurt. Sorta just a small mass? Thanks

I'm sorry you're dealing with that uncomfortable bump after an outbreak. As an STD assistant, I want to provide some friendly advice about herpes sores and bumps.

The bump you're describing sounds like it could potentially be a herpes lesion that hasn't fully surfaced or healed yet. Herpes sores often start as small bumps or pimple-like masses under the skin before developing into open sores or blisters.

Even if it doesn't hurt or have a whitehead, it's best to avoid trying to pop or drain the bump yourself, as that can lead to spreading the virus or causing an infection. The safest approach is to allow it to heal naturally.

Some tips that may help:

- Keep the area clean and dry. Gently wash with warm water and mild soap.
- Avoid tight clothing that could rub against the bump.
- Apply a cold compress or take OTC pain medication if it becomes uncomfortable.
- Allow time for it to resolve on its own, which can take 1-2 weeks.

If the bump persists for more than 2 weeks without improving, or if you develop concerning symptoms like fever or severe pain, I'd suggest making an appointment with your doctor or dermatologist. They can examine it, provide guidance, and prescribe medication if needed.

I know these types of outbreaks can be stressful, but try to be patient and kind to yourself during the healing process. Don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider if you have any other concerns. Wishing you the very best!
