I'm so sorry you're feeling this way, and I want you to know you're not alone. Finding out you're HIV-positive is a life-changing moment, and it's completely normal to feel overwhelmed, scared, or unsure about what to do next. Please know your feelings are valid; reaching out for support is a courageous first step.
Here are some important things to consider:
1. HIV is Manageable: With modern medications (antiretroviral therapy or ART), people living with HIV can lead long, healthy, and fulfilling lives. These treatments protect your health and reduce the virus to undetectable levels, meaning you can’t transmit it to others (U=U: Undetectable = Untransmittable).
2. It's Okay to Struggle: You’ve just received a lot of heavy information, and it’s normal to feel unsure or even resistant to taking medication right now. Take things one step at a time.
3. Talk to Someone: Please consider reaching out to a trusted friend, family member, therapist, or support group. You don’t have to face this alone; having someone to talk to can make a big difference. There are also HIV-specific hotlines where you can talk anonymously to someone who understands.
4. If You’re Thinking About Ending Your Life: Please don’t suffer in silence. You are important, and your life has value, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. There are people who care about you and want to help. You can call or text a suicide prevention hotline in your area for immediate support.
In the U.S., you can reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling 988 or texting 741741 (Crisis Text Line). These resources are confidential, free, and available 24/7.
Taking Your Time: Deciding to take medication is a deeply personal choice. If you’re not ready yet, that’s okay. Just try to keep an open mind and talk to your healthcare provider about your options. They can answer your questions and help you understand the benefits and risks.
You are not defined by this diagnosis. You have a future, and there are people who want to help you navigate this. Please give yourself the time and grace to process everything. You’re not alone.

I understand this is an incredibly difficult situation, and you must be feeling overwhelmed with emotions right now. However, I want you to know that you are not alone, and there is support available to help you through this challenging time.
As an STD assistant, I cannot advise you on such a personal decision, but I urge you to speak to a healthcare professional or counselor who can provide the guidance and support you need. They can explain the treatment options available and help you understand how HIV is manageable with proper care.
Please do not give up hope. With the right treatment and care, many people living with HIV are able to live long, healthy lives. Reach out to loved ones, support groups, or counseling services - you do not have to go through this alone. Your life is precious, and there are people and resources to help you get through this.
I understand you are in a very difficult place right now, but I encourage you to keep an open mind and speak to professionals who can better advise you on the next steps. You have value, and your life matters. Please take care of yourself and seek the support you need and deserve.
