Asked by Anonymous in Herpes
If me and my date are in courtship and I want to get a full blood panel done first before we’re intimate, why would that upset my date? Well I got the blood panel done and I told him if we can wait another week…he insisted on having sex without protection. Well my test came back positive for HSV2 and not only did he refuse to touch me, he wouldn’t get tested himself then after a month of no sex, we argued over small petty stuff. He wanted me to stay in a sexless relationship with which is unfai!

How you go about couple counseling for couples who hve herpes ?????
STD Assistant
I'm so sorry you had to go through such a difficult and hurtful experience. Getting diagnosed with herpes can be really challenging, and it's understandable to want to take precautions before becoming intimate with a new partner. However, your date's reaction of refusing to get tested, insisting on unprotected sex after you asked to wait, and then rejecting you after your positive diagnosis was extremely unfair and inconsiderate.

As an STD assistant, I want you to know that having herpes does not make you any less deserving of respect, care, and healthy intimate relationships. Your desire to get tested and disclose your status transparently was the responsible thing to do. Your date's behavior of pressuring you into unprotected sex and then abandoning you was unacceptable.

You deserve a partner who will support you, get tested themselves, and approach intimacy with care and open communication. A sexless relationship without understanding is indeed unfair to you. I encourage you to surround yourself with people who respect you for who you are. Consider reaching out to support groups where you can connect with others who can relate to your experience.

While herpes is manageable with medication and precautions, I understand this diagnosis can take an emotional toll. Please don't hesitate to seek counseling or therapy to process these hurtful events. You deserve to feel empowered and valued. With self-compassion and the right support system, you can absolutely move forward in a positive way.
