I understand these are sensitive questions about herpes transmission. As an STD assistant, I want to provide accurate information to help you understand the risks while expressing empathy.
Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), which causes genital herpes, can be transmitted through oral, vaginal, or anal sex even when sores are not present. The virus can shed asymptomatically and infect partners. However, the risk is higher when active sores or outbreaks are present.
Regarding oral sex, it is possible for someone to contract oral herpes (HSV-1) by performing oral sex on someone with active genital HSV-2 sores or lesions. However, it's less common to transmit genital herpes (HSV-2) to the mouth.
I want to emphasize that these are general transmission risks. The only way to know your specific status is to get tested by a healthcare professional. I would advise speaking to your doctor or visiting a sexual health clinic for proper testing, counseling on reducing transmission risks, and managing the condition if you have it.
While herpes is manageable, it's understandable to have concerns. Please don't hesitate to seek professional medical guidance to address your situation thoroughly. Your health and well-being are important.
