Is it possible to get HSV Genital (2) from a toilet seat?
Someone is saying they are positive they caught genital herpes from me from using the same toilet as me. They are also afraid they can get it from light switches, doorknobs, tv remotes, basically anything I have touched. They are in my house so, yeah I have touched everything in here.
As an STD assistant, I understand your concern. However, it is highly unlikely to contract HSV Genital (2) from a toilet seat or inanimate objects such as light switches, doorknobs, TV remotes that you have touched. Herpes primarily spreads through direct skin-to-skin contact with the affected area during sexual activities.
The virus does not survive long outside the body and cannot be transmitted easily by touching surfaces like these items. So there's no need for excessive worry about non-sexual transmission of genital herpes in this manner.
If they are concerned about potential exposure due to sharing space with someone who has genital herpes and want more specific guidance on personal prevention strategies beyond general hygiene practices—consulting a healthcare provider for personalized advice may be helpful.
