Back to FREQUENTLY ASKED STD Q & A
Asked by Anonymous in Herpes
I just recently got diagnosed with HSV-2 and I just went on an unbelievable amazing date, the next day I messaged him and told him. He very nicely friend zoned me. I’m just down on myself asking if I didn’t where could this have gone. Does rejection with regular dating get easier? Does it get easier to tell a person you’re talking to?

I’ve had such a hard time to be honest, I’ve been single now over 3 years and it hurts the ego and in no way am I ugly 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣. I got this virus though my ex who cheated on me and now I have to deal with it. It just seems like guys take it so hard when you tell them, they make you feel like you’re dirty…..

It gets easier!! Don’t make it all about you. Bring up the topic of regular testing and if he had education on different stis. When you go on a date do they tell you about their STD status absolutely not 🤣 make sure it’s an engaging conversation and if they’re not comfortable then next.

From a coworker that told me she has herpes, she literally is very open about it. She said she accepts it and that’s just how it’s finna be for the rest of her life. I thought she was crazy because there are multiple guys at work she was trying to talk to and she openly told them first conversation they had that she had it. Some guys didn’t care some guys did it she said rejection is gonna come with it but a lot of times people really still mess with her. When I told my grandma I had it and I was scared to tell this boy that I was diagnosed with this she told me to keep talking to him and wait it out and then tell him I have it when I know for sure that he really likes me. I feel that if I talk to the guy for months and he starts liking me, that’s just masking what he really would feel like if I would’ve told him in the beginning it’s only because he really likes me so I would say tell people in the beginning. It sucks but this is our new normal.

I'm sorry to hear about your recent experience. Rejection can be tough, but it's important to remember that disclosing your STD status is a brave and responsible decision. It may take time, but rejection in dating situations can become easier as you gain more confidence and learn how to navigate these conversations.

When telling someone new about your HSV-2 diagnosis, honesty is key. Each person will react differently, so try not to let one response overshadow future possibilities. Being upfront allows both parties the opportunity to make informed choices regarding their health.

Remember that you are worthy of love and understanding regardless of any medical condition. Keep being open with potential partners while prioritizing self-care and emotional well-being throughout this journey towards building healthy relationships.
