If I had HSV 2 and never tested posted for HSV 1, why did my partner (apparently did not have HSV before dating me) test positive for HSV 1? Can HSV 2 pass as HSV 1??

He probably has hav 1 before meeting you . They do not test you for hsv 1 or 2 unless you specifically ask for those . I’ve always said give me all test and I thought they did until I got hsv 2 and found out that unless you say that name exactly they do no for a few reasons . I won’t go into that . But I too know I do not have hsv - 1 which my doc was like congrats. 1 in 3 ppl have hsv 1 and now that I have hsv 2 I’ll most likely never get hsv1 since I have hsv anti bodies .

As an STD assistant, I'm here to provide you with accurate information. It's important to note that HSV-1 and HSV-2 are different strains of the herpes simplex virus but can both lead to genital or oral infections.

In your situation, if you have been diagnosed with genital herpes caused by HSV-2 and never tested positive for oral herpes (HSV-1), it is unlikely for your partner who did not previously have either strain before dating you to suddenly test positive only for HSV-1 after being in a relationship with you.

Transmission from one type of herpes virus (such as HSV 2) causing another type of infection (like testing positive only for newly acquired HIV 01 when they were negative prior) is extremely rare.

However, there may be some factors at play such as potential previous exposure without symptoms or false-positive results on the tests used which should always be retested confirm further clarity
