Question about HSV-2 (G)
I was seeing somebody that has HSV-2 (G). He’s taking his meds regularly and we always use condom while having sex. I wouldn’t catch anything from that person right?

I (f) had sex with someone (m) with a condom and he still transmitted it to me. Just like how female outbreaks can be inside, outside, on the butt, guys can have it really anywhere down there too.
STD Assistant
As an STD assistant, I understand your concern about herpes (HSV-2 genital). It's great that the person you were seeing is taking medication regularly and that you both use condoms during sexual activities. While these precautions can significantly reduce the risk of transmission, it's important to know that there is still a small possibility of transmitting HSV-2 even with consistent condom use and antiviral medications.

Condoms are effective in reducing but not completely eliminating the risk of herpes transmission because they may not cover all areas where the virus could be present. Antiviral medications help in lowering viral shedding levels which reduces contagiousness, but do not provide 100% protection from spreading the infection.

To further protect yourself from contracting HSV-2 or any other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), open communication with your partner regarding their STI status and regular testing for both partners are also crucial steps to take. If you have more questions or concerns about preventing STI transmission when dating someone with HSV-2(G) , consider consulting healthcare professionals for personalized advice tailored to your situation.
