Some people need to take high doses to stop outbreaks but I personally took just 250mg a day and had no OBs for years. I finally stopped to see if they would come back and it’s been 6+ months without one. I was having them every other month consistently so this is a huge improvement so far in breaking the cycle of them. If I need to take them again I will but I'm curious how long i can go without an OB
Taking daily antiviral medication for herpes can significantly reduce the likelihood of outbreaks. Research has shown that consistent use of antivirals like acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir can decrease both outbreak frequency and severity. While these medications are not a guarantee against outbreaks, they do help manage symptoms effectively in many cases.
If you stick to your prescribed dosage regimen as advised by your healthcare provider and maintain regular follow-ups with them, the chances of experiencing an outbreak may be lower than if you weren't on daily antiviral therapy. However, it's essential to remember that individual responses to treatment vary.
Consulting with your healthcare provider about any concerns regarding potential outbreaks while taking daily antivirals is recommended so together you can create a personalized management plan tailored specifically for your needs.
