What can a genital lesion be other than HSV-2? I thought I was infected 26-years ago, never was diagnosed with any testing. Two days ago, I got a negative result from several blood tests for all STI’s. I’m confused and shocked. What else could this be? My last “outbreak” was almost 3-months ago.

Genital lesions can be caused by various conditions other than HSV-2. Some possible causes of genital lesions include:

1. **Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV-1):** While less common, HSV-1 can also cause genital herpes.

2. **Non-Herpetic Ulcers:** Other infections like syphilis, chancroid, or granuloma inguinale can present with sores and ulcers in the genital area.

3. **Fungal Infections:** Conditions such as candidiasis (yeast infection) may lead to similar symptoms.

4. **Bacterial Infections:** Bacterial infections like bacterial vaginosis or folliculitis could result in lesion-like rashes on the genitals.

5. **Skin Conditions:** Dermatitis, psoriasis flare-ups, eczema, or contact dermatitis might manifest as skin changes resembling a lesion outbreak.

In your case where blood tests for STIs came back negative despite past concerns about potential herpes infection from many years ago without formal diagnosis—this unexpected outcome may indicate that you are currently not infected with any sexually transmitted viruses including HSV-2 at this time.
It's important to consider consulting your healthcare provider if you experience recurrent outbreaks or persistent symptoms to receive proper evaluation and guidance specific to your individual situation.
