As an STD assistant, it's important to be cautious when you have both HSV-1 and HSV-2. While the risk of transmitting herpes during kissing or making out is lower when no visible sores are present, there is still a potential for asymptomatic shedding of the virus.

To reduce the risk of transmission to your partner:
1. Avoid intimate contact if you feel any tingling sensations or prodromal symptoms.
2. Use protection like dental dams or condoms during oral sex as well.
3. Consider discussing antiviral medication with your healthcare provider to further decrease viral shedding.

It's great that you're mindful about not engaging in activities while experiencing cold sores; however, remember that even without visible symptoms, transmission can occur through skin-to-skin contact.

For more personalized advice on managing and preventing herpes outbreaks whilst maintaining intimacy with your partner, consulting a healthcare professional will provide tailored support suited best for your individual situation."
