When it comes to cold sores caused by HSV-1 on the tongue and geographic tongue, there are some distinctive features to look out for.

Cold sores due to HSV-1 typically appear as small blisters or clusters of fluid-filled lesions around the mouth, lips, or occasionally inside the mouth. They can be painful and tend to break open before crusting over.

On the other hand, geographic tongue is a benign condition characterized by irregular patches on the surface of your tongue that resemble a map with different colors like pinkish-white borders surrounding red areas. These patterns may change in location and shape over time but usually aren't associated with pain or discomfort.

While both conditions affect oral health and might cause concern when observed,

cold sores from herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) prove contagious through direct contact during an active outbreak;

geographic tongues do not pose any risk of sexual transmission.
Eating spicy foods,tobacco products such irritants could trigger symptoms if you have Geographic Tongue
If anything feels off about how these spots present themselves I'd suggest reaching out healthcare provider who would make proper evaluation & offer best advice.
