First date.. as in first meeting? ALWAYS in a public place.. coffee for two is good. But then again, maybe the lady should pick instead of me.
First date.. as in the lady? Much tougher one to answer for sure. I think we can safely rule out the tattood set... if she has more than one that may be one too many! While age is just a number (or so they say), my ideal first date (or any date for that matter) would be with someone old enough so that we have experienced some of the same life experiences.. have a common ground, raised families.. that sort of thing.

Dinner and maybe a margarita or two, in a booth in a very quiet restaurant so we can talk and get acquainted. I hate noisy places almost as I used to hate places that allowed smoking throughout the restaurant. I think communication should begin immediately and that it should be two way, without any baggage being left unhandled. That way, one party or the other can decide early on to call things to a halt immediately. If the evening proceeds well, then one could say to the other "I'd really like to see you again - may I call you?", hoping the other one would say, "I'd really like that and would like to see you again too".
