Hiking or walking through a park is always a safe bet. Sitting on a dock watching a sunset while drinking a beer (or better, an Orange Smash) would also work. Really, any similar venue, just so there's a way to talk and eyeball each other and see where that goes.

Well I hate dinner dates for first dates I hate being tied to a table. I prefer to have walk and talks so if any first date jitters arise we can shake it off and keep moving along. Doing something active but in public is my ideal first date.

Ideally meet for coffee or something first to get to know each but not count as a date. First real date would be something like exploring simple local trails and enjoying each other's company before another event like dinner, movies, dancing, etc. Hike could alternately lead to a hot spring or some other location to enjoy our time there
