Is it possible to live with roommates, family members of all ages (including babies) and not pass on HSV2 through daily living activities?
You CANNOT pass along HSV2 by toilet seats, towels, spoons, folks, etc for a couple reasons: 1) because the virus doesn't live long outside the body, 2) HSV2 is passed through genital region-to-genital region contact. It loves the genitals and likes to make homes there. That is to say that the chances of passing HSV2 FROM genitals TO mouth, hands, etc are very low. HSV=Genital to Genital ("skin to skin)".
Now, HSV1 in contrast, loves the mouth/oral region but can speak to genitals also. For this reason, it can be passed FROM mouth TO genitals which will then become genital HSV1. HSV1 oral can also be passed (most commonly) mouth to mouth, ex) sharing drinks, forks etc. It also doesn't live long outside the body but is very very common.
