We were both respectively diagnosed with HSV-2 in the early 2000's. I was 18 & stupid, he wasn't careful either. When we contracted HSV-2, there was a stigma attached to STD's...like you were dirty. There also wasn't much discussion about it & I didn't really know anything about it. Anyway. needless to say, dating was difficult. I always eventually had to have "the talk" with the guys I dated & they never ended well. In 2008, a guy I dated (who I finally told) mentioned this site. He was a good friend (still is) and told me about it. I thought I'd check it out. Within a week, I had gone on 3 dates. All were great guys, and who knew that 1 of those 3 guys would be my future husband. We dated for 2 years, and we've been married now for 2 years. We never have to have "the talk" and it's almost as though neither of you have it because there is nothing to be ashamed of anymore. Plus, we can empathize together when we have outbreaks, and sometimes even make jokes.
Advice to other members:
Don't give up. Your life isn't over. STD's happen. More now than ever. PLEASE be careful & use protection so you don't spread it to others. You KNOW how painful it is, and we have to live with it forever. So...please don't burden others with it. Check this site out...there's someone for you too!
We wrote back and fourth for about 10 days, then spoke on the phone a couple of times before meeting for coffee. We met at a coffee shop the first time, and spoke for more than an hour. We then planned a second date for breakfast, and a third for a movie. The fourth date was a hike, and we've pretty much been together ever since.
We both keep telling ourselves and each other we are keeping it light and taking it slow, but we both feel an incredibly strong bond and sense of commonality. Neither of us really wants to get married again, at least at this point.
I met Julie here and we went to dinner several times and decided to be exclusive! I have been on some of the other H sites and they cant hold a candle to PS. In fact I almost signed on to private herpes dating until I ran a search in my area and it came back with 2 results, after getting off the floor from laughing I went right back to you all!
I've finally decided to respond to this. I don't mind sharing our story. Yes, we are getting married at the end of this year. At this time we have decided to not come out to our families regarding our diseases. We emailed and chatted with each other for one month before deciding to meet. But we were both on the site for at least a couple of months before we stumbled upon each other's profiles. We decided to meet at a cafe in my hometown. I made sure that we both met there on our own and there was no reason for having either of us pick the other up (for safety reasons).
Congratulations! We are delighted that you have met someone special here and would love to hear your experiences. They are proof positive that our website can successfully match people like you with a wonderful new partner.
