I met my husband on Positive Singles. We dated long distance for about five months and we both knew that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. In August 2009, he flew to New Orleans for some Marine pre-deployment training preparation before he left for Afghanistan and I drive down from Kentucky to see him. He had always said he was going to marry me but I didn't think he was going to right then. He asked me to marry him the first day I got down there and we were married the very next day. The day after we got married, he shipped back to Camp Pendleton. He got two weeks leave to come home to me before his deployment and then he left for the desert for seven months. He has been home since the beginning of June and we could not be happier! I have never been with anyone who loved me for exactly who I am, faults and all. He really is the man of my dreams, as corny as that sounds! Thank you for helping me meet the man I am going to spend the rest of my life with!

Living in Ohio, it was my birthday in November of 2005 when I came across the website. I had been separated from my husband for quite some time and was awaiting the finalization of my divorce within the week. I hadn't been doing much dating, but was looking forward to leaving the past behind and starting a new life.
A week into my membership, I responded to a simple message from a man living in Florida. Two days later, we began a conversation online that lasted about 3 hrs. He had just come out of a serious long term relationship and like me, was ready to start over. There was immediate chemistry. After several hours of conversation, all that was left to say, was "Wow". There's was an obvious connection, neither of us could ignore. Our conversation migrated to the telephone, where we continued to tell our life stories until it was time to go to work the next morning. This was a Tuesday morning, and as I went through my day at work, I could hardly concentrate on anything but him. The moment my work day ended, we picked up where we left off and continued talking all night until I fell asleep during the conversation around midnight. Having had no sleep since this all began, it was inevitable. It was now late Wednesday morning, and I had overslept. I missed work that day. I used the time to ponder on where this could lead. He was a man unlike another other that I had met. Far better than I assumed I would ever find. But his life was in Florida, mine in Ohio. Would we fly back and forth?, Would we just ended up breaking it off because of the distance? I began to realize that there is only one way to determine whether or not this is as true as we feel it is. He was born and raised in Florida and had no desire to leave. Me, on the other hand, was looking for an excuse to skip town. The more I thought about it, the more sense it made. All I had to do was pack and leave. I took the remainder of the day to say goodbye to my job, and try to convince my family I knew what I was doing.
There were mixed reviews, but I was a determined woman. Thursday was Thanksgiving. I spent the day with my family and left that night with my clothes and my dog. 13 1/2 hours later, on Friday morning, I was in Florida. The next few days was better than the first and everyday thereafter, just got better. Next month, will be 2 years. I built a brand new life in another part of the country with a man I couldn't go on without. To get big rewards, you have to take big risks. I sure did, and I couldn't be happier.

So, as a single guy, I rejoined PS and just sort of checked, had a sneaky peak: YEP, she was still there! So I said straightforwardly that I had been where I was, but was now single, we had done enough messages - did she want to meet? Sure \I knew she was a kind person; but after all my confusion (in which I had at least been honest), I was amazed that she agreed immediately.
We met in a park. Her hometown is 4 hrs from me (heck, I live 3 hours from a roundabout or traffic light!), so I parked my motorhome. It was a gloriously sunny day, I was early, took the dogs for a stroll. I was pleased to meet & chat to someone from PS, but had no nerves or excitement, as I had no expectations - I had been attracted by her kind words more than by her picture. So when a car pulled up next to my motorhome and an elegant slim blonde stepped out, I thought "Damn, I wish the girl I was meeting looked like that!!"
Then she called my name. Wow! OMG! Sunlight glinting through her blonde hair, red summer dress, warm welcoming smile.......
Well, you think we two, both over 50, should be smart enough to know better, and to take our time sensibly. Sorry to disappoint you folks, but We Knew. We knew within hours, if not minutes (she says that she knew instantly). Since then, only two months ago, she has downsized her job to spend more time with me (I am a pretty free agent), so living apart is an asset not a hindrance - I spend 4 nights a fortnight in the big city with her (theatres & live music) , she spends four nights a fortnight in my country home (horses & motorbikes).
So we have three nights a week apart, but talk, text and email all day; and can see our friends and do our own thing - she goes to Meditation and I go hunting hahahahaha! I never said we were exactly alike! But we get on like a house on fire, love each other to bits, will be living fultime in the country within two years and.......what was that? marriage? I have learnt my lesson: in Life, you never know; for sure I have an open mind.
So thanks, PS, two lonely people with fractured lives - are now living a wonderful, full, happy life together.

After learning about my condition, I honestly felt like my life was over. I came across PositiveSingles and read all the personal stories and found that there are regular people, just like me, who are dealing with the same situation. Advice to other members:
My advice is to keep an open mind. I almost ignored Jay's "wink" to mebecause I saw his location and thought to myself, "What on earth would I have in common with someone from Alaska?!" I took a second look at his profile and it turned out we had a TON in common...we're from the same hometown, we both LOVE chocolate, and we were both diagnosed with the same condition.
My second piece of advice is to ask questions and keep the conversation going in your emails. A one-word reply probably won't keep the attention of the person you're talking to.
